Let’s drop resolutions
It’s a new year…shoot, it’s a new decade! I guess the decade part all depends on if you are a “0” or “1” person. I’m a “0” person, so I’m saying it’s a new decade.
I don’t know how old you are, but I’ve been around for a quite a few decades. And I have been setting new year resolutions for many of them. The problem is, I can’t recall any resolution I completed by the end of the year I set it. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person in this same boat either.
There is something about resolutions that feels like we are dumping on ourselves for not doing that “thing” the previous year. So we have to set it up for being accomplished in the new year.
How about a positive outlook?
Why not instead, we look forward with a positive outlook (instead of beating ourselves up for what we didn’t do last year). We grow, we evolve, so let’s pick a motivating word for 2020!
There are a few different ways you can go about this. You could Google inspiring words to get lists of words to choose from. Dwindle those down until you get to 1 word that will be your mantra for 2020.
You could also check out Episode 37 | A Vision Board for Your 2020 Vision, where I talk about creating a digital vision board for 2020. When you look at the 9 parts of the Western Feng Shui Bagua (basically your life as a whole), you may be able to find a word that ties these 9 elements together. You can use Canva for creating this digital vision board.
Or you could go the “gut” way. What does your gut tell you that you should be thinking about this year? Many times that initial reaction to something is the Universe guiding us to make a decision.
My word is FOCUS
I went with my gut. The first word that popped into my head when asked was “Focus”. Boy, do I need it in spades! Not only that, but it’s been something that I think about most days. Especially the last part of 2019.
I know there are a lot of other parts of my life that will fall into place when I put more attention on focus. Grow my business….focus. Spend quality time with my family….focus. See more of my friends….focus.
And I also find myself giving that back to the small business owners that we help. Focus for their business. Focus on topics in our membership site.
What is your word for 2020?
Leave a comment below sharing the word that is going to drive you in 2020 to be the best version of you that you can be. You don’t have to limit yourself to a work word or a personal word. It should cover both.
Until next time….
